Job Responsibilities of the Nanny

CHILDREN RELATED DUTIES

  • Provide all aspects of childcare for (2) two children, one teen and a new born.
  • Create and maintain a healthy, safe and nurturing environment for the child.
  • Coordinating the entire day until after dinner time.
  • Maintain a digital calendar of all kids and family appointments.
  • Manage kid’s appointments: Dentists, doctor, school activities, trips, etc.
  • Shopping with kids for clothing when asked by the parents.
  • While it should be the children’s responsibilities, ensure their bedrooms and bathrooms are tidy.
  • Helping kids with household chores (assisting them in doing it, finishing it in exceptions where they can’t. e.g. clean up, shovel snow, laundry, etc.).
  • Driving children to activities and appointments.
  • Helping children with general hygiene.
  • Providing developmentally appropriate educational games.
  • Teaching manners and other socially appropriate behavior.
  • Organizing children play dates.
  • Doing arts & crafts, reading books, going to library.
  • Taking children to parks and playgrounds.
  • Organizing sports and other motor-skills activities.
  • Reinforcing appropriate discipline for the children.
  • Making sure the children are doing their tasks.
  • While it should be the children’s responsibilities, ensure their bedrooms and bathrooms are tidy.
  • Babysitting the newborn.

COOKING RELATED DUTIES

  • Weekly menu planning for children and adults (lunches and dinners).
  • Cooking dinner before the kids are back home, have dinner ready and served.
  • Preparing healthy snacks for the children.
  • Helping the children do their lunch for school the next day right after dinner.

HOUSEHOLD RELATED DUTIES

  • Keeping the house organized (organizing kitchen cabinets, fridge, dry storage, children’s office, etc.).
  • As needed, assist the cleaning lady (vacuum of main floor, etc), assist in larger cleaning in season changes.
  • Manage inventories for: toiletry, food, household products and school supply.
  • Act as point of contact for home suppliers and contractor as needed.
  • Doing light housework, perform household chores like sweeping, cleaning and dusting.
  • General errand running, including grocery, gifts shopping, etc.
  • Planning of children’s birthday events.
  • Installation of seasonal decorations.
  • Occasional overnight stays.
  • Feeding and walking dog.
  • Handling general requests, as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years experience working full-time in a private household with similar responsibilities.
  • Good French communication skills is mandatory (verbal and written).
  • Experience in pedagogy is an asset.
  • Flexibility to work outside of strict job description parameters.
  • Ability to enforce orders and maintain discipline.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work outside of strict job description parameters.
  • Flexibility in the working hours, according to the employer’s needs.
  • Have a keen sense of initiative.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Energetic with a strong work ethic and communication skill.
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the children.

  • Must have a current legal working status in Canada.
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence.
  • Must have a car in good condition.
  • First aid training and child and infant CPR certification.
  • Smoke-free environment.

Job Salary

Competitive salary.

Job Additional Information

  • 2 weeks paid vacation.
  • Live-out
  • Work days: Monday to Friday (flexibility required).
  • Work hours: 7:00 am to 8:00 pm (flexibility required).
  • No group benefit plan provided.
