Job Responsibilities of the Butler

  • Day to day running of large residence to maintain standards and efficiency.
  • Provide high quality guest services in a professional, courteous and accommodating manner to staff, guests and outside service providers.
  • Scheduling and supervision of household installations, trades and vendors for interior & exterior and seasonal projects, including quotes analysis, negotiation and documents filing.
  • Handyman services, including HVAC maintenance, basic electrical work, mechanical room management, Wi-Fi, pool maintenance, etc.
  • Outdoor maintenance (i.e. flowers, lawn mowing, cleaning, moving furniture, sprinklers, etc.)
  • Identify maintenance needs and repair projects.
  • Recruiting, training, management and co-ordination of the private service team.
  • Vehicles, machinery and nautical crafts management and maintenance.
  • Calendar management, coordinate and assisting with event planning.
  • Table setting and table service.
  • Installing/uninstalling seasonal decorations (i.e. Halloween, Christmas, etc.)
  • Assisting housekeeping team with chandelier cleaning, dusting, furniture moving, etc.
  • Outdoor maintenance (i.e. flowers, lawn mowing, cleaning, moving furniture, sprinklers, etc.)
  • Managing and monitoring household inventories and a budget.
  • Maintaining a daily activity log.
  • Answering the doorbell, greeting of guests and visitors as well as answering the phone.
  • Assistance in the organization and service during private and social events.
  • Lead in the organization and service during private and social events.
  • Occasional Chauffeur duties.
  • Overall vehicles management, including storing, mechanical inspections and maintenance, fuelling, washing, etc.
  • Supervision of household staff and working alongside as needed.
  • Answering to emergencies.
  • Assist with security responsibilities of the residence, including monitoring of electronic security systems and follow up of any alarms that may arise while on duty.
  • Pet care including dog walking.
  • General errand running, including grocery shopping, dry cleaning, office drop-off/pick-up, etc.
  • Other duties assigned from time to time:
    It is not possible to identify all the duties and responsibilities required for this position. As with any such role, the main goal is to perform/coordinate all necessary tasks to maintain the household’s standards. The Majordomo will be expected to take on other duties and responsibilities not specified above, as required, on an occasional or on-going basis.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years similar work experience.
  • Good English communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience in hands-on household work and knowledge of all areas of property cleaning, maintenance and organization.
  • Flexibility to work outside of strict job description parameters.
  • Flexibility in the working hours, according to the employer’s needs.
  • Flexibility to handle last-minute changes.
  • Must have a sense of initiative.
  • Can work under minimal direction.
  • Have good organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Have a strong work ethic and communication skill.
  • Be professional, polished, discreet, and always maintain confidentiality.
  • Be physically fit and able to reach and lift medium weight objects (e.g. 30lbs to 50lbs).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Must have a current legal working status in the United States.
  • Smoke-free environment.

Job Salary

$65 to $70,000 per year.

Job Additional Information

  • Live in.
  • Work days: 5 days/week (flexibility required).
  • Work hours: n/a (flexibility required).
  • House-car available for work duties.
  • The employer may be away for several weeks at a time, but a salary will continue to be provided during their absences.
